Gorilla Tracking

Observe the families of Western Lowland Gorilla that live in the forest surrounding Ngaga Lodge as they climb trees to feast on ripened fruit, swing from branches, and communicate with hoots and howls. Each encounter with these primates so like ourselves is fascinating and life-changing.

Rooted in research and conservation, Kamba’s gorilla tracking experiences are conscious of their potential impact. We practice observation, not engagement, and connect with the gorilla families in a respectful, authentic, and personal way. Excursions are strictly limited to four guests maximum, plus a guide and tracker.

At Ngaga Lodge, gorilla tracks are on foot and typically start before dawn. Expeditions range in length from 1-8 km (0.5-5 miles) over undulating terrain and often through thick undergrowth. Tracks can last between two and seven hours, including the time (one hour maximum) spent with gorillas.

Guests must be at least 15 years of age, undergo medical checks, and wear masks to prevent disease transmission; the latter is to prevent us from spreading diseases to these precious primates, with whom we share 98% of our DNA. We encourage our guests to take the “Gorilla Friendly Pledge,” which helps minimize the risk of disease transmission.
